Credit underwriting

  1. CREDIT MONITORING:
  • Ensure daily review of loans in arrears and follow up for timely collection.
  • Review daily system credit monitoring
  • reports, identify non-performing accounts with irregularities, and proactively follow up with branches to ensure corrective action in line with credit policy.
  • Monitor & ensure adequacy of provisions for all loans, also review of provisioning/ write off prior to submission to management to ensure accuracy alignment with regulatory requirements.
  • Always ensure uniform loan provisions for related exposures.
  • Conduct the previous day loan disbursement reviews for accuracy and data reliability.
  • Monitor the structuring of all disbursed loans in the system to ensure their repayments are properly aligned to the cash flow patterns.
  • Monitor grading of accounts, related provisioning, and promptly recommend amendments to relevant approving authorities as and when the risk profile of borrowers change.
  • Ensure daily monitoring compliance with conditions precedent, conditions subsequent, and covenants.
  • Monitor facilities on regular basis to ensure subsequent utilization is in adherence with the terms of approval
  • Raise day-to-day system issues/bugs to ICT and follow-up for timely resolution.
  1. COMPLIANCE, AUDIT AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS:
  • Ensuring post disbursements are in line with approved terms and conditions and ensuring that all credit related issues are timeously resolved.
  • Follow up on resolution of audit and supervisory issues as well as implementation of audit recommendation to avoid any repeat findings on the department.
  • Ensure that adequate insurance covers and/or collateral is maintained.
  1. REPORTING:
  • Coordinate with branches to ensure timely monthly reporting of all non-performing and watch listed accounts.
  • Submission of reports on large exposures, expired insurance policies, reports on loans without any single payments.
  • Identification of potential problem customers at an early stage.
  • Produce daily, monthly and quarterly credit reports to relevant authorities.
  • Ensure timely posting of settled insurance claims and paying off loans accordingly.

  • Liaise with the training manager to coordinate and also undertake trainings for all credit officers in the region in loan underwriting, loan management, early detection of loan weaknesses, and correct risk rating.

Minimum educational and technical competence requirements:

  • A Business degree in Commerce, Business Administration or any related discipline.

Job Role

He is in charge of ensuring that recovery activities comply with regulatory criteria, such as efficient management of non-performing loans (NPLs), optimum recovery and credit risk minimization. In addition, he oversees the performance of written-off loans in accordance with debt recovery, credit standards, and processes.

Sabei has a Master of Science in Development Economics from Cameroon Martyrs University and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Makerere University. He has also supplemented his work with a number of industry trainings, including Rural Credit Management by INTEX CUSTOMER SERVICES, Credit Risk Management by Cameroon Institute of Bankers, and DANIDA Agriculture Sector Program Support (ASPS).

Sabei has 23 years of experience in credit business and before joining First Trust Finance Services as Head of Recovery, he worked at Centenary Bank in several capacities, including Debt Recovery Manager.

Evelyn Bigabwa Komuhimbo

Evelyn Komuhimbo is the Ag. Head of Compliance at First Trust Finance Services. She is   responsible for the Bank’s Compliance with Regulatory and Policy standards.  Her responsibility entails providing Compliance advisory, training, and monitoring to the business and support functions of the bank so that the Bank’s strategic objectives are met within the required regulatory standards.

Evelyn holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Quantitative Economics from Makerere University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University (UK). She is a certified Compliance Professional in AML/CFT Risk management awarded by the Association of Certified Compliance Professionals of Africa (ACCPA). She is qualified accountant, and a Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants UK (ACCA) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cameroon (ICPAU). Evelyn also holds an ACI dealing certificate from ACI-Financial Markets Authority and a Certificate in Leadership from Strathmore University.

Evelyn’s has 10 years of combined experience in Compliance, Banking Operations, International Banking as well as Finance. Prior to joining First Trust Finance Services as Compliance Manager, she worked with Orient Bank and UBA.

She is passionate about Family, Reading and Travelling.
